A holding space for healing one wave at a time
Trish Bell - Humanistic & Integrative Counselling in York
Perhaps you are struggling, need help with what you have experienced, or with where you are heading ?
I offer a free initial, no obligation 15 minute telephone consultation. This enables you to ask any questions and it also gives us an opportunity to explore how I might be able to support you and how we may work together.
Before I became a counsellor I worked with young people through a wide range of challenges. I also volunteered for a bereavement charity for 8 years supporting adults through their grief. Understanding people’s needs at a time of bereavement has been such meaningful work that inspired me to train as a counsellor. My passion for supporting those who are bereaved has continued to grow and I now support children and families through Bereavement Children’s Support York (BCSY), helping young people navigate their grief.

I have worked with many different presenting issues as part of a charity based organisation in Doncaster. In my private practice for the last 5 years, I have offered face to face, telephone and some online counselling.
Currently I am volunteering with an organisation called Chronically Marvellous, who support people living independently with chronic illness.
I am a Registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work according to their Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling & Psychotherapy.
Registration requires a minimum of 30 hours of continued Professional Development each year in line with the BACP requirements.
I receive regular monthly clinical supervision and hold an enhanced DBS certificate, along with professional indemnity insurance.
Also, I am registered with the information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and fully comply with GDPR regulations.

My approach to therapy is uniquely integrative, combining the practical tools of CBT with empathy and flexibility of person-centred therapy. I also bring in a creative touch to sessions, using visual aids, reflective exercises and metaphors to help you explore and understand your experiences in a way that feels meaningful. This collaborative and personalised style is tailored to your individual needs.
With a flexible approach my focus is what works best for you rather than following a rigid structure. This might be through reflective conversation, practical tools, or creative expression, our work will be guided by your needs, goals and preference.
The Person-Centred approach is led by you, giving you the opportunity to explore your thoughts and feelings so that you can feel truly heard and understood. I can help you to become more self-aware and self accepting to enable positive change.
CBT is effective for a wide range of mental health issues, with the focus being on current problems. It is evidence-based to help you understand the link between your thoughts and emotions, and how these impact patterns of behaviour that may contribute to your distress.
Together we can decide whether CBT is the right approach, to support you, as you take an active role in the changing process.
My approach to CBT is collaborative and compassionate, offering a blended style that incorporates person-centred therapy if required to suit your individual needs. We can develop strategies that you can use to improve your emotional well-being and behaviour long after therapy ends.
Creative counselling is a therapeutic approach that incorporates non-traditional methods through painting, writing, guided imagery and sandtray. When feelings and experiences are hard to articulate verbally, or if you are feeling stuck, using interventions alongside a person-centred or CBT approach can help promote emotional wellbeing.
No artistic skill is required - as being creative is about the journey.
By engaging with creative counselling we can connect with the conscious and subconscious to help you make sense of things, which informs our work together.
I work with young people, adults and older adults.
I would encourage an initial 5 sessions and then we can review and agree to any additional counselling for as long as you need and you can decide when you want to end. Collaboratively we can allocate time for our last session so that we can work towards the ending together.
Face to face and telephone counselling . I offer a small number of online sessions by arrangement.
Please contact me by telephone at 07935590186 or email at Healingwavescounselling@protonmail.com.
This depends on you, for some people talking things through is their preferred way whilst others might explore their emotions in different ways. There is no right or wrong - we will work together in a way that feels safe and comfortable for you.
